Captivated by ideas of time and memory Jenny Laidlaw embraces the beauty of the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete in her jewellery. Working predominantly with silver, gold and gemstones, she creates intricate structures that reflect the fragility of nature.

NO USE IN CRYING OVER SPILT MILK
Captivated by the ideas of time and memory I have revisited some of the same themes that inspired my previous work to create my new collection, No use in crying over spilt milk. But now the intricate patterns and entwining branches of old have given way to bent and broken linear structures caught in a stage of transformation. It is a body of work that explores the beauty of the impermanent, imperfect and incomplete.
CAN'T SEE THE WOOD FROM THE TREES
My work is inspired by the isolation of the winter landscape. By capturing these scenes through photography, I aim to replicate the fragile and brittle quality that has become dominate in my work. I work directly with the raw images, searching for the details hidden within, before translating these concealed elements onto metal through saw piercing and the process of etching.
